That’s Kalpen Modi, White House Liaison

Actor Kal Penn, now going back to his real name of Kalpen Modi (Represent!), started his new job Monday as Associate Director in the Office of Public Liaison. He will be working to facilitate relationships between the White House and Asia-American/Pacific Islander communities. Hat tip to Modi on both the new job. (Screw Hollywood! They never knew what to do with your brand of sexy anyway.) I’m happy to add him to the list along with Valerie Jarrett, Desiree Rogers and the rest of the White House crew I gladly follow and report.

"He will be working to facilitate relationships between the White House and Asia-American/Pacific Islander communities. "Is anyone working to facilitate relationships between the White House and the African American communities? Or the Native American communities? I’m just wondering.

I love Kal Penn! He is just so handsome… I cannot wait for him to return to movies, though; I will miss seeing him on the big screen.

Is it racist that it never occured to me that Kutner was South Asian? I just liked him as a person and character. Great actor, so it ticked me off that his character commited suicide on House. For a guy so concerned about race relations and stereotyping, his acting career sure hasn’t shown it. He played a terrorist in 24 and agonized that it was racial profiling (no it’s not; he’s South Asian, not Middle Eastern; even so, since 99% of terrorists are ME, it’s simple accuracy). Then he’s a stereotypical stoner in H&K. And then he was completely turning all that around on House, then by leaving he has this great character subjected to suicide. Gosh, guess all those South Asians are unstable (again, not really, he was one character acting against type in his manner of exit, not representing all SAs).The best attack on racism is to portray an engaging, compelling character who is great on individual merit (which is all that counts anyway). He did this on House. While I’m glad he’s doing what he enjoys, his political appointment by a dubious politician reduces his impact by 99.9%. Great actor, lousy politics.
