Serena fans, rejoice! She’s going to the Australian Open Final to face Russian Dinara Safina. She looks fierce, per usual and Safina is the only thing in the way of Williams’ 10th Grand Slam title.
There has always been some debate about the Williams Sisters. Do they play too little? Are they too preoccupied with fashion and other interests? Are they out of shape?
And don’t even get started on their looks, where reactions run from mouths-on-floor, horndog drooling to repulsion towards their undeniably black features and undeniably black bodies.
Lithe, blonde Scandinavians, they are not.
More like exceedingly buff Alex Weks-meet-Naomi Campbells who will destroy you on the court, charm you off of it. But the Williamses have also been able to play and win majors at ages where most tennis champs are on their way out the door. Perhaps taking time off, resting, enjoying their youth outside of tennis wasn’t bad strategy, but about healthy psyche.
And no one has ever accused the Williams Sisters of not having a healthy dose of ego. Especially Serena, who attributes almost every loss she has to herself, rarely giving her opponents credit. Because … you know? She’s Serena Williams. She crushes dreams. You don’t crush her dreams. Only she is powerful enough to do that.
All hail the “Queen Serene.”
