No Jail for Woman Who Cried Big, Black Obama Supporter Attacked Her

Black people, don’t hold your breath waiting for explanations or apologies!

From MSNBC.com/The Associated Press:

PITTSBURGH – A McCain campaign volunteer accused of making up a story about being robbed and assaulted in Pittsburgh by a man who disliked her McCain bumper sticker will enter a program for first-time offenders.

Under the deal announced in court Thursday, 20-year-old Ashley Todd will be released from jail and required to undergo mental health treatment. Her record eventually will be expunged as long as she goes to treatment, stays out of trouble and keeps authorities apprised of her whereabouts.

Todd, of College Station, Texas, has been jailed since Oct. 24, when police say she admitted making up a story about being robbed near a Pittsburgh bank and then assaulted by a man who scraped a backward letter “B” into her cheek.

Once again, none of this is funny — even if for the first time since never no black men were corralled off the street and roughed up in an effort to find Ms. Todd’s phantom attacker. Anyone who is familiar with American history or just recent history knows Todd is not the first white woman to cry wolf and claim a black man assaulted her leading to the harassment, arrests and in many cases imprisonment or deaths of black men. And I’m not even going to get into the times when one false cry lead to black settlements and towns being burnt to the ground causing the murders of men, women and children. So if black people seem a little chippy about this and just can’t find the funny anywhere go Google Susan Smith or check out a copy of 100 Years of Lynching and tell us where you find the funny. 1. I look at this woman and all I can think is that living inside her body/mind is nearly punishment enough. But that’s just me being snarky. When I’m honest, I have to admit that she makes me feel embarrassed/sad to be a white woman. Most of us would never ever do something like this. I hope.

…Or they can check out the film “RoseWood”…a brilliant piece by John Singleton before he decided to say eff that and go Hollywood all the way.

  3. I have many relatives in Pittsburgh and spent part of my youth there. Interracial dating started earlier in places like Pittsburgh than in my native New Jersey, so it’s a little surprising that a crackpot would level those charges there. Then again, maybe not. There used to be a lot of players in Pittsburgh. Perhaps she was jilted. Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned.

  4. maria: Don’t be ashamed. That woman is either a malicious fraud or a nutbar. Every ethnic/racial/gender group has those. But it is a pretty old school card to play “the black guy did it.” It’s part of America’s history. Just absorb the punches and continue to fight the power.

  5. ezra: I don’t think it had an effect either way because the saga wasn’t drawn out. If she’d been a better actress (a la Susan Smith) and the police more over-zealous this drama may have played out over a week or more with all the accusations and recriminations and the harassment of black men in Pittsburgh. CNN and network news would have covered it 24/7 so when the truth finally would come out it would have been HUGE because there would have been a build up.If the McCain campaign were pushing the issue during that build up only for it to become a hoax THEN it would have had a devastating affect on McCain because he would have been accused of race baiting or even inciting a hostile environment for black men in Pitt. (Or violence depending on how potentially ugly this could have gotten.) But Todd couldn’t even write the “B” correctly on her face, so the issue was dropped within a 48 hour news cycle.Hence. It’s dead. No ups for Obama. No blowback for McCain. She’s a moot coot.
