That’s what I like to see. An All-Williams Wimbledon Final.
Both sisters, Serena and Venus, looked and dressed awesome as they administered their beatdowns to all comers in all white. (The hair, perfecto!) I loved how nonchalant they’ve been about this the whole time as they tore through the weakened field. Seeing Serena yawn through a match between her sister and a weaker opponent. Watching them both tear through doubles (they’re in the semis). The carnage was glorious and now the only thing standing in the way of Wimbledon glory is each other.
Will Serena get her third trophy? Will Venus, the best player on grass of her generation, get her fifth trophy? Let’s not forget that Venus could potentially have had six trophies if her little sister hadn’t beat her in the all-Williams finals of 2002 and 2003.
What I love the most about all-Williams finals isn’t just the fact that no matter what a girl from Compton will take home the prize. It isn’t just that an American, a black American, no matter what, will take home the prize. It’s having John McEnroe shut the hell up for five minutes and acknowledge the sisters’ greatness.
Suck on it McEnroe! Suck on that all-Williams final hard!
