Colbert Super PAC Labels Romney: "Mitt the Ripper" (Video)

What I love about this is that if I didn't know this was an elaborate stunt to point out how ridiculous our campaign financing laws are put together by comedians Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart there's a good chance I'd think this was a for-really real ad. It's no less hysterical that what's passing for attacks these days. Dare I say it -- this satire is almost too good. (YouTube)

Don Lemon Barely Able to Hide Contempt For Fluff

On The Daily Show Tuesday, Jon Stewart ran a segment featuring on of my favorite news people, Don Lemon, barely being able to hide his disinterest in the special brand of news fluffernutter (Now with MORE fluff than nutter!) that CNN churns out when there isn't enough serious news to spread around. It can get stupid ... real stupid. In our present "Age of Cynicism" the Powers-That-Be don't think an American audience has the patience to sit through a solid block of just pure, unfiltered real news.

"We Live Now In Hard Times, Not End Times."

Photo via USA TodayI spent the Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear from my computer as I, with my Seasonal Affective Disorder and general crankiness, could not handle a crowd Saturday. And according to all estimates, it was quite a crowd down at the Mall in Washington, D.C. Estimates say that more than 215,000 people showed up at the two political satirists' gathering, which featured The Roots, Mavis Staples, Sam Waterston reading poetry, Stephen Colbert in fancy outfits and an earnest closing speech by Stewart, addressing the disconnect between reality and the crush of anger and confusion that populates the 24-hour-news cycle.

Watch Stewart's speech after the jump.

Harold Ford Jr. Is Serious About Running ... He Has to Be. He Went On Colbert.

In other random news about Pretty, Pretty Princess Ford and his run for NY Senate:

Karl Rove finds Harold "attractive." No matter how you put that it still sounds kind of gross because, dude, who wants whatever Karl Rove is crushing on? Who wants to BE whatever Karl Rove is crushing on?

He can't get any respect on the NY Times letters page. "What? He's a DEMOCRAT, you say? Why I didn't notice!"

Oh, and he's totally pro-reproductive rights and he LOVES the geighs now. Loves. Hearts, unicorns, rainbow sparkle ponies and everything. What? What are you all looking at? Seriously. He's down with the people who are into people who are the same gender as themselves. If you didn't know you better ask some gay body.

Jim Cramer Died For CNBC's Journalistic Sins

Jon Stewart went all prosecutorial and Jim Cramer cupped his balls while curled up in a fetal position. Twas not pretty.

This beatdown was not meant for the gregarious, goofy "Mad Money" host Jim Cramer as Jon Stewart tried to repeat when not smacking the man in the face with his own words. He quoted Carly Simon and to paraphrase, said this ass-whoopin' isn't about you.

And yet it was.

(TO SEE THE VIDEO OF THE INTERVIEW, CLICK HERE.)

I don't know why, but no one ever seems to learn that you don't start fights with the court jesters of society. Especially when they have large, televised forums. And I don't know why people still discount how a fake news show can turn frightfully real in the hands of a well-informed Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert or even David Letterman. They are comedians. They don't have to play by the "rules." You will be eviscerated. Yet I watch people do this over and over again thinking they can beat the comic and walk out all "no whammies" at the end of the interview.

Do these people not watch the show? Do they not know that Jon Stewart once KILLED A PROGRAM?

Extended Rant: Stephen Colbert On The George Will Revolt

It seems the brain of the Republican Party is now horrified at the monster they helped create. Where will they go now? David Frum, David Brooks, Scott McClellan, Christopher Buckley, Christopher Hitchens, Peggy Noonan, Kathleen Parker, Charles Krauthammer (even though he still hates Obama), ringleader George Will -- the list goes on and on and they all blame, Alaskan Snow Bride Sarah Palin, but as Colbert drolly points out -- really? The party's been off the rails for years now. This is the excuse you're using?

On Larry King Live last night Larry King and CNN political map guru John King mentioned that the rift over Palin could lead to a break-up of the party. When Larry King asked the female Republicans on his panel about this I agreed with them in that I don't see this happening.

But I do see a mass purging coming if John McCain loses (or wins). A sort of Spanish Inquisition for modern conservatives, only instead of being drawn and quartered or waterboarded, they'll just be exiled to Berkley, Calif. or Greenwich Village, NY or the other anti-America parts of America.

I hope you like Gay Pride parades and spoken word poets, Peggy Noonan. Wherever those exist is where the RNC is setting up the concentration camps.

Michelle and Jon: Together At Last

After doing The Colbert Report earlier this summer (and looking resplendent in a aquamarine dress ... and so resplendent, Colbert sang to her), Michelle Obama is strolling over to the set of The Daily Show Wednesday for a sit-down chit-chat with Jon Stewart. Yippie! I have a feeling Stewart won't push up on Barack's woman like that wily Colbert did, but I'm ready to squirm through another one of Stewart's funny, but sometimes painful interviews. Remember, Michelle! Don't try to be funny! That's his job. He'll only make you pay for it. Just "do you" and all will go magically.

From The New York Times:

Michelle Obama, the wife of Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, will make her first appearance on Comedy Central’s satirical news program “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” on Wednesday, the cable channel said Monday. Mr. Obama has been a guest of Mr. Stewart on the show three times, most recently in April. Ms. Obama has granted few interviews in recent months, though she did sit down with Jill Biden, the wife of Mr. Obama’s running mate Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., for a joint interview with “Access Hollywood” last month. Cindy McCain, the wife of the Republican nominee, Senator John McCain, has yet to appear on “The Daily Show” or its late-night companion “The Colbert Report,” a Comedy Central spokesman said.

I love me some Jon Stewart. And someday, God willing, it'll be me, him, a book I wrote and a TV audience and it will be awesome. Sigh. A girl can dream.

Why I Heart Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert

See! Now that's satire. I get exactly what that is supposed to be about. It's pitch freakin' perfect, comedy gold. It's so meta and so absurd with absurdity being the rule of law in this election cycle. Not since dogs playing poker have I seen such an iconic image of pop ridiculousness that can burn its way into your frontal lobe and never, ever leave.

And Stephen Colbert's face with his hand on his hip? That smirk like the one from The New Yorker cartoon cover -- priceless. And the Get Christie Love 'fro he's rocking? I couldn't love it more if I tried.

The cover goes with a very funny Entertainment Weekly Q&A with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert about the presidential race (as well as the occupational hazards of working as satirists). Stewart at one point compares their news-ish coverage to being akin to a drunk calling out another drunk for lying in a bar in New Jersey. The interview is hilarious.

Here's a nugget of Stewart answering a question about Gov. Sarah Palin's "folk hero" status:

I keep hearing that she's ''like us.'' There's this idea that people who hunt and have ''good'' values are somehow this mythological American; I don't know who ''this'' person is, I've never met them. She is no more typical ''us'' than I am, than Obama is, than McCain is, than Mr. T is. If there is something quintessentially or authentically American about her, I sort of feel like, you know what? You ''good values people'' have had the country for eight years, and done an unbelievably s---ty job. Let's find some bad values people and give them a shot, maybe they'll have a better take on it.

Thanks reader dkan71 for the link!

Yes We Can Do 'The Colbert Report!'

The Obama campaign didn't waste a minute getting up Michelle Obama's appearance on The Colbert Report. But I thought I'd wait for the show to get their video up because I knew it would be of better quality. (And if you want to see even better quality, click here.)

One. I already raved that she looked beautiful.

Two. I found it both hilarious and a little cringe-worthy when Stephen started fake hitting on her.

Three. I thought she did a decent job considering she was doing her best not to fall into Stephen's elaborate comedy traps. I would have liked her to loosen up a little and let more of the funny fly as she has a deft sardonic wit, but considering how every "um" and "urh" coming out of her mouth is scrutinized I don't blame her for playing it safe and rattling off some talking points. Although the "yes we can" bit was classic Michelle, being that it was both kind of funny and had some unintentional sexual energy behind it that I'm sure was really about "Yes we can, wash the dishes" and "yes we can take out the garbage." Not "yes we can" whatever my lizard brain was picking up on.

Four. Way to show some leg. Those stilts were long. If you got it, flaunt it and my God, she was flaunting it.

Five. It really would be awesome for Barack to come on the show and administer a beat down on Stephen for his lewdness, but we know that's not going to happen. Barack isn't Dennis Kucinich or Mike Hucakbee, who both had free range to act a damn fool on Colbert every time.

BTW. Did anyone see Chris Matthews on The Colbert Report earlier this week? Talk about cringe-worthy. He went all earnest and started talking about running for senate from Pennsylvania in 2010. Dear sweet Joseph, Mary and Jesus, there are already too many whack jobs in Congress. It's bad enough he's on television.
