Watch The Snob Talk Mental Illness On Melissa Harris-Perry's Show (Video)

Sunday I was part of the latter segments of Melissa Harris-Perry's show on MSNBC, discussing living with Bipolar Disorder. I'm really grateful to Melissa for giving me the opportunity to share my story, as I really hope it helps someone. I know it would have helped me if I'd seen someone like me talking about Bipolar when I was in the hospital back in 2006.

Check out the videos after the jump.

The Snob To Talk Mental Illness on MSNBC's "Melissa Harris-Perry" Sunday

Melissa Harris-PerryFirst week at BET's Don't Sleep (hosted by my Arkansas play cousin T. J. Holmes) is down and the second is almost through. I've been a wee bit busy, naturally. But even in all that, I've still got time for the occasional media pit stop! This time it's on MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry's eponymously named show. I'll be on this Sunday, Oct. 14 at 11:30 a.m. EST, talking about mental health issues. As long-time readers know, I've been open about my diagnosis with Bipolar Disorder since 2009. I've written about it here on this blog, spoken about it on Michel Martin's NPR show, and wrote stories about my experiences for Essence Magazine earlier this year in January and BP Magazine in 2011.

Hilarious side note: My friend Dr. Jason Johnson is ALSO going to be on MPH's show this Sunday! It's a black political nerd convention going on! All we need now is TheRoot.com's Keli Goff and The Onion's Baratunde Thurston and there will be enough of us there to form Black Nerd Voltron or something.

MSNBC: Biden Suggests Team Romney is Pro-Chains While Going Off The Chain

My favorite fake picture of Vice President Joe Biden. (Via The Onion)In my first ever post for MSNBC's new Lean Forward web site, I tackled America's favorite crazy grandpa, Mad Dawg Joe Biden, as he tossed some red meat to a mostly black crowd in Virginia this week. Papa Joe suggested that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney wants to put folks "back in chains" with his fiscal policies. This means it's time for the over-the-top "playing the race (war) card" accusations (and counter-accusations) to begin!

Yet somehow, it all seems so familiar.

theGrio: Book Publisher Karen Hunter Is "Unapologetically Black"

Karen Hunter is the woman behind Karen Hunter Publishing. For theGrio this week I penned an article on Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, author, professor and book publisher Karen Hunter. Hunter (who is a quote machine) talks about everything from handling the fall-out surrounding Kris Jenner's memoir -- which came out around the same time as the announcement of her daughter Kim Kardashian's divorce -- to the time she said on MSNBC that Mitt Romney wanted to be president of "Caucasia-stan."

Calling herself "unapolegtically black," Hunter never once hold's her tongue as she talks about starting her own business will holding on to her fighter's spirit, always speaking truth to power.

Amy Alexander: Is MSNBC To Blame When OWS Protests Get Out of Hand? (Guest Post)

When the city of Oakland, Calif.'s police force fired projectiles into Occupy Wall Street protestors trying to retake a public space they were ousted from, long-time journalist and media critic, Amy Alexander worried that sensational, biased media coverage of the protests has caused these crop of new activists to put themselves in harm's way without understanding all the consequences.

Maxine Waters Clowns on Allen West Over "Plantation" Comments (Video)

Coming of her "unleash" comments regarding President Obama, Rep. Maxine Waters headed to MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews where after some light chit chat about her remarks she went in on fellow member of Congress, Tea Partier, Rep. Allen West.

West, a Republican, had made comments earlier accusing Waters and others of being "overseers" on the Democratic Party's "21st century plantation." Waters countered that she found it "odd" that when West's own unemployed brother needed help, West told him to head over to the Congressional Black Caucus' job fair and talk to those he despises.

NABJ, Sharpton Make Up/Shoulder Shrug And Move On

New MSNBC afternoon show host Al Sharpton was supposed to make a stop at a political panel during the National Association of Black Journalists' (NABJ) conference last week in Philadelphia, but pulled out at the last minute out of concerns that murmurs surrounding some unhappy NABJ members and Sharpton's new gig would overshadow the conference. Of course, by not showing, people went with the narrative that he was mad at NABJ. But neither side seemed to be too mad, in the end. More just moody and kind of butt hurt, but ... ultimately, what can you do? Let's hug this shit out.

Daily Beast: Is Sharpton's MSNBC Show A Kick-Back?

The Daily Beast is reporting that Al Sharpton's new gig on MSNBC may be the result of the long-time Civil Rights activist endorsing the NBC Universal-Comcast merger. The merger was controversial for many reasons, but most because of the media behemoth it created. There was quite a bit of opposition against it, including opposition from some black organizations and members of Congress, but Sharpton, Ben Jealous of the NAACP and Marc Morial of the National Urban League all signed off on it. NBC-Comcast later agreed to creating a type of informal "diversity council" to advise the new media conglomerate. The Daily Beast is implying the council Sharpton helped create may have "created" Sharpton's new role with MSNBC as an afternoon anchor.
