Tucker Carlson Gets Hyperbolic Over Michael Vick

From MediaiteLast time I checked (and hey, I could be wrong), professional bowtie wearer Tucker Carlson wasn't a member of PETA who was against all forms of animal mistreatment and believer in the animal rights math of rat = chicken = dog = person, but apparently he thinks pro-footballer Michael Vick should have been executed for his role in a dogfighting ring he ran. But since we don't do capital punishment for people who torture and kill animals (just people who torture and kill people), he did 19 months in prison instead. For some reason, serving time in prison isn't enough of a punishment for crime for Carlson. Apparently prison is supposed to be a permanent scar, not about punishment or reform, but about marking a person to walk the world as one of the damned in a separate caste system.

Someone alert Martha Stewart to give back that TV show! She's an ex-con!

Most Violent Cities List Continues to Be Misleading, Starring St. Louis

From Stagger Lee, a comic based on the real life St. Louis murder of Billy Lyons by a notorious St. Louis pimp over a hat. Lloyd Price liked to sing a song about it. (Comic Related)My hometown of St. Louis, Mo. topped the "most dangerous" city list again. Beating Detroit, Oakland and Camden, NJ. Of course, what people don't realize that in these studies they never count the greater St. Louis area (St. Louis County) but constantly compare us to other cities where they do factor in the county's data -- like Chicago which is part of Cook County.

This is not to say St. Louis is some paradise (good Lord, it is not) but c'mon? We're worse than Oakland, where they almost had a riot break out this year and Detroit? Last time I checked half of the city of St. Louis wasn't being retaken by Mother Nature. While St. Louis has a long, storied history with violence and we've had our fair share of senseless killings, it seems odd that the city manages to top this list year in and year out no matter what the fluctuations are in the crime rate and manages to beat out places that are far more notorious. The whole region is being judged for a few troubled neighborhoods. After all, the city of St. Louis only has 350,000 people in it. St. Louis County, which the city is not part of due to some long-standing county versus city beef, has nearly 1 million people. The city would disappear tomorrow without the money and people living in the county surrounding it. Yet the city is only judged by its dwindling numbers.

And no offense to Detroit, but c'mon. You know you're No. 1. (Yahoo News via Associated Press)

Corruption Charges Keep Coming In PG County

The FBI apparently weren't just knocking down Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson's door. On Monday TBD.com reported that three PG county officers were facing charges of their own for allegedly conspiring "with six others to illegally distribute untaxed cigarettes and alcohol in Maryland and Virginia, and to distribute cocaine."

Politico and Wife Act Out Final Third of "Goodfellas"

Like mobster movies? Like it when politicians allegedly act like mobsters? Oh, boy. Do I have a political corruption story for you! Just substitute "Goodfellas" mobster Henry Hill's wife Karen flushing cocaine down the toilet and sticking a gun in her panties while the Feds burst down the door with Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson, telling his wife Leslie to flush a check for $100,000 down the toilet and stick nearly $80,000 in cash in her bra. You've seen this movie already. Thankfully, Johnson and wife don't have to worry about being snuffed out by a panicky Jimmy Conway. They just have to worry about going to prison for allegedly being horribly, horribly corrupt.

Are Black Boys Doing Even Worse In School?

A new report was released Tuesday that made the education of black males sound even more dire than many already thought. A study commissioned by the Council of the Great City School says "Black males continue to perform lower than their peers throughout the country on almost every indicator."

The report calls the educational gap a "catastrophe" that needs intervention from the highest levels.

Did the Detroit PD "Go Hollywood" in the Death of Aiyana Jones?

Mother Jones has a fascinating story online chronicling the accidental shooting death 7-year-old of Aiyana Stanley-Jones. In it, unnamed Detroit police officials call the midnight raid that resulted in her death a poor execution of police business that may have been made more difficult by the presence of TV cameras. Meaning, the police in question did not follow normal procedure, making something routine (apprehending a suspect) much more dangerous and unpredictable than it needed to be.

The Kentucky Lady Stomper & Other Friendly Updates

It's raining in Washington, D.C., but fortunately I avoided the showers by getting all my running around done this morning between 9:45 and noon when there was no rain. Which is great since I lost my one and only umbrella at some random restaurant on Capitol Hill several weeks ago. Obviously, since this is not Bakersfield, Calif. where I only had one broken umbrella for five years because it never rains in Central California, I'm going to eventually need to pony-up for a new umbrella.

But today's not that day.

Rand Paul "Lady Stomper" Guy Identified, Apologizes

Tim Profitt, lady stomper, with Senate candidate Rand Paul Hey. It was all just a misunderstanding! No need to look over here! Yeah, somehow Rand Paul supporter and campaign volunteer Tim Profitt's foot managed to stomp itself all over a female protestor from MoveOn.org. But he was just trying to protect Rand! (From a woman who wanted to take a picture.) Because the police wouldn't stop her! (From taking that damn picture!) She was going to do something! (Like potentially embarrass Rand Paul with a photograph.) But BUMP THAT! You don't need pesky liberals to embarrass Rand Paul. His supporters are fully capable of doing this on their own!

"Senseless" Shootings: Another Perspective

In my recent post about a shooting that took place in Washington, D.C.'s U Street Corridor after a funeral, reader E suggested that those interested in gaining a better understanding of the high propensity of violence among young black males should read John A. Rich's "Wrong Place, Wrong Time," which looks into the reasoning behind many of these shootings. The book reveals a web of violence, that often started when the men were young boys, where men get trapped into a world of fear, violence and retaliation.
