Obama Was Chiding Some Lazy Somebody During His CBC Speech, But Maxine Waters Sez It Ain't Her

To close the Congressional Black Caucus' Annual Legislative Conference Saturday night, President Barack Obama took to the stage and gave a fiery speech about the kicking off of ones slippers and getting back to work. It was meant to demonstrate his commitment to his Jobs Bill (that he once reminded Congress to pass) and to kick someone in the pants. Was that someone ... the CBC, itself? You, fair reader at home or work reading this? Republican obstructionists? Democratic volunteers? The base? The chattering Liberal punditocracy? Labor Unions? Obnoxious people who don't think there's any difference between the political parties when one is clearly awful and the other one is a quasi Doomsday cult right now? (I obviously support the one that's just awful.) Well, whoever the president was accusing of being the Debbie Downer of Negative Nellies it surely wasn't Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California, who was all over the teevee yesterday saying she didn't know who the president was talking to but it damn sure wasn't her!

Tea Party Guy Allen West Threatens to Leave CBC Over Anti-Tea Party Rhetoric

The only Republican member of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Allen West of Florida, is threatening to leave the caucus because of their adoption of the "Fight crazy with crazy" stance against the Tea Party. The same Tea Party that helped West get elected. Things can't be all that comfortable in the CBC for West, largely because the CBC is dominated by black Democrats who think he's a jerk. He goes on TV accusing them of being plantation overseers, then he tells his unemployed brother to go see those DNC "slave catchers" for help. So Rep. Maxine Waters, the Grand Marshall in the "fight crazy with crazy" brigade, slapped West down with much glee. It was awesome. We all loved it. Except West. Who now wants Waters and other CBC members to stop saying mean things about the various racist factions within the Tea Party. Waters, who most recently said "the Tea Party can go straight to hell," probably won't mourn the loss of West if he leaves. In fact, she'll probably name herself Grand Marshall of "Don't let the doorknob hit you where the Lord split you: Ding Dong, The West Has Left The CBC" party during the convention this month in D.C. That's going to be a great party. Buy your tickets now. (CBS News)

I Feel Like I've Been Writing A Lot About Maxine Waters Lately

When one thing happens that means there's usually nothing to see here. Two things? A coincidence. But when I was looking at my third "Hey, world! Did you hear that thing Rep. Maxine Waters of California said!" that's a trend, buddy. Over the weekend, Rep. Waters told a crowd that they needed to be fearless in their defense of issues and ideas they hold dear. That they should never allow themselves to be cowed or intimidated. In fact, she said she was afraid of no one, not even the Tea Party, then promptly shouted that "the tea party can go straight to hell."

Maxine Waters Clowns on Allen West Over "Plantation" Comments (Video)

Coming of her "unleash" comments regarding President Obama, Rep. Maxine Waters headed to MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews where after some light chit chat about her remarks she went in on fellow member of Congress, Tea Partier, Rep. Allen West.

West, a Republican, had made comments earlier accusing Waters and others of being "overseers" on the Democratic Party's "21st century plantation." Waters countered that she found it "odd" that when West's own unemployed brother needed help, West told him to head over to the Congressional Black Caucus' job fair and talk to those he despises.

Rep. Maxine Waters, CBC, Waiting For You to "Unleash" Them On Obama

While President Barack Obama was on the road doing a listening bus tour, members of the Congressional Black Caucus were getting an earful in Detroit from frustrated constituents upset over our dire economic conditions. When pressed on why the CBC isn't doing more to put pressure on the president, Rep. Maxine Waters gave a candid response that they were waiting on permission from their constituents. She said these voters, often fervent supporters of the president, needed to "unleash" them, like political Kraken.

Allen West First Republican In CBC Since 1996

And he's terrifying, but more on that in a second.

Allen West is one of two black Republicans who joined Congress after wins in November. He recently announced he's joining the Congressional Black Caucus which hasn't had a Republican member since 1996 when Gary Franks of Connecticut was part of the caucus. And West's membership should be interesting considering he is certifiable, and not in that, "We politely disagree way," but in a, "He believes in violent voter suppression and almost killed a guy" kind of way.

Maxine Waters Is Going to Put the System On Trial

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) is the latest Congressional Black Caucus member to find themselves in the crossfire of the House' Ethics Committee. She's facing accusations of helping an African American-owned bank that had ties to her husband. Since the committee already came for Harlem-based Rep. Charlie Rangel, stripping him from his leadership positions, Waters is preparing for the fight by threatening to put the ethics committee itself on notice.

Rep. James Clyburn Pushes Back Against Critics of Dems, CBC

Rep. James Clyburn addresses black bloggers about the midterm elections on Thursday. And he did it with a history lesson.

In a fiery presser on Capitol Hill Thursday where he at times seemed visibly frustrated, South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn blasted members of the Democratic base who were withdrawing support, money during the Midterm elections. He said those Liberal and progressive critics who get stuck on things like the health care bill not being exactly what they wanted lose sight of the long battle.

"I don't understand this notion that if I can't get everything right now then there's no tomorrow," Clyburn said.
