Rand Paul & the GOP: Black Friend Wanted

Big week in conservative outreach to the black community

Rand Paul went to the Harvard of historical black colleges -- Howard University -- to school a roomful of already educated black students on how President Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and that all of the NAACP's founders were Republicans. (Some were also white! And really light-skinned Negroes!!! And Ida B. Wells!!!!) Of course, all the students (and me and most black people who can read) already knew this.

For Halloween, Ghosts of Sexual Harassment Haunt Herman Cain

Herman Cain spent all of Halloween Monday rearranging the deck chairs on his unsinkable disaster presidential campaign after Politico ran a story on Cain being accused of sexual harassment during his tenure with the National Restaurant Association.

Herman Cain Tries To Win Over Black People By Insulting Their Intelligence

Via FacebookYou know? I'll never get this tactic that is, in my opinion, overused by certain black conservatives to get their fellow Negroes to cross over to the GOP side. I call it the "All black people are stupid but me" tactic. Which is, by far, the worst tactic to use. Herman Cain, presidential wannabe and Godfather pizza man, recently went on CNN and said the Democrats have "brainwashed" black people into not seeing conservatism and the Republican Party as viable political options. Which ... OMG? Really? That old lie that pretends like the 1960s and 70s never happened? But then, maybe Cain wasn't trying to win over any black people to the GOP with that statement. Maybe that was really about making white conservatives feel better since the GOP is routinely accused of harboring, defending and protecting bigots within their own party, rather than running them out of town.

Former CNN Analyst Amy Holmes To Host Glenn Beck's "Blaze"

Who says there's no jobs in this jobless recovery! Sayer of infuriating things Amy Holmes is taking a gig hosting adult baby Glenn Beck's live-streaming show "The Blaze" on his online GBTV network. Holmes is one of my favorite black conservatives that I almost never, ever agree with. (I think we were last on the same page during the Don Imus "nappy headed hoes" mess.) But the self-described political independent, just took a new gig to mix it up over on Beck's new site. Mediaite is reporting that Holmes will anchor from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the show will premiere on September 12th. Said Holmes of her new job, "I look forward to working alongside to deliver thoughtful and compelling news coverage everyday on GBTV."

I Think Herman Cain Is Just Screwing With Us

The 2012 presidential election continues to look like "The Great Race for Second" on the Republican side with Newt Gingrich's campaign staff resigning en masse because he's completely delusional and my fair Mittens Romney bypassing Iowa polls he knows he's destined to lose because he doesn't look like he hates science enough. But the greatest sign of, "All the serious Republicans said, 'Eff it. I'm waiting until the Hopey Changey guy can't run anymore," is the emergence of Herman Cain as your debate-winning, "I can't be racist because I totally thought the black guy gave the best Tea Party-esque speech" candidate.

The Man of "Steele" Returns: "Iron" Mike Goes to MSNBC*

Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele is headed to become the conservative Alan Colmes of MSNBC. Or not. Or ... well, I really don't know what he'll be doing since the only MSNBC "performances" of his I can recall involved Chris Matthews cutting him off multiple times (as The Matthews is wont to do). Maybe he'll get to be as popular as ol' This Morning Joe is Brought to You By Starbucks, John Scarborough. But, blessed be, John Scarborough -- despite the fact that I find him somewhat annoying -- is actually an interesting show host. Heck, a lot of the MSNBC opinionators are somewhat interesting. Which is usually the hallmark of someone who shouts opinions on TV for a living. You gotta bring that razzle dazzle. Does Steele (currently a contribuiting editor for The Root) have WHAT IT TAKES?

Allen West First Republican In CBC Since 1996

And he's terrifying, but more on that in a second.

Allen West is one of two black Republicans who joined Congress after wins in November. He recently announced he's joining the Congressional Black Caucus which hasn't had a Republican member since 1996 when Gary Franks of Connecticut was part of the caucus. And West's membership should be interesting considering he is certifiable, and not in that, "We politely disagree way," but in a, "He believes in violent voter suppression and almost killed a guy" kind of way.

Today's Your Chance To Hug Alan Keyes, D.C.!

Talking Points Memo recently covered the Tea Party's diversity-based "Uni-Tea" rally. It was part of the loosely-knitted movement's effort to show that there are Tea Partiers who aren't just your white neighbor's politically incorrect grandpa. According to TPM, it was a boat-load of fail. But in the spirit of this great nation, if at first you don't succeed try, try, try something different. (Yet kind of the same.)

Today is the National Black Conservatives Rally in Washington, D.C.! Alan Keyes will be there! Yes, that ALAN KEYES! Aren't you excited?

Michael Steele Goes To Howard And Commits A Massive Fail

Salon.com's War Room chronicled a recent visit RNC Chairman Michael Steele made to the historically black college campus of Howard University and naturally, the result was not pretty. Blame it on Steele's cluelessness. Blame it on the GOP's largely failed minority outreach. Blame it on the rain, the stars or the silver moon. But whatever you do, Michael, don't blame it on you. (Even though it is kinda of your fault since you are the chairman.)
