Bill O'Reilly Gets to the Smug Factor on Lupe Fiasco's "Obama Is A Terrorist" Comments

While his No. 1 nemesis was broadcasting from digital exile, FOX News all-star Bill O'Reilly was on The Factor still fighting the Ghost of Yesteryear's Sista Souljahs and and Ice-T "Body Count" Cop Killahs, when for the umpteeth time, O'Reilly invited a rapper on his show (this time Lupe Fiasco) just to not let him talk, then tell him why he was wrong, then say something to the effect of "what about the children?"

Pundits Are Not Rap Stars: Rush Limbaugh Tries (And Miserably Fails) At Defending Himself From Jay-Z Diss Track

Seriously. It was like bringing a wooden spoon to a nuclear war.

Jay-Z and Drake have recently put out a little ditty called "Off That" because we all know that Jay-Z is never retiring. In the song he proclaims the many things that we are now "off," including sagging jeans and large chains and making it rain and many other things I've chronicled in my "Limits of Blackness" series where I'm all "WTF, my people. I love you, but I can't go there with you." I'm all for it. Reminds me (content-wise) of Lupe's "Dumb It Down," another favorite track of mine. But the song also disses conservative yak-meister Rush Limbaugh and FOX News talking head/host Bill O'Reilly. You know? Just because.

Bill O'Reilly Recalls Spike Lee Encounter, Uses Word "Props"

One, I'm completely terrified of his use of the term "props." How does Bill O'Reilly know about "props?" Does he use it on an everyday basis. Does he give others "props" on the show? Does he know that "props" is short for "proper?" As in, he gave Spike Lee his proper due? This is like listening to my father try to say "baby's mama." It's just disturbing and wrong. It should not happen.

Two, that is a very Spike Lee thing to do. (From Huffington Post)

Silence of the Blowhards: Did Corporate Heads Shush Their Biggest Mouths? (FOX News and MSNBC)

Have Bill O'Reilly and Keith Olbermann reached a truce via their corporate bosses told them to "shadditup" because the network bashing was "bad for business?"

From Glenn Greenwald's column:

(T)he chairman of General Electric (which owns MSNBC), Jeffrey Immelt, and the chairman of News Corporation (which owns Fox News), Rupert Murdoch, were brought into a room at a "summit meeting"forCEOs in May, where Charlie Rose tried to engineer an end to the "feud"between MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and Fox's Bill O'Reilly.According to the NYT, both CEOs agreed that the dispute was bad for the interests of the corporate parents, and thus agreed to order their news employees to cease attacking each other's news organizations and employees.

The Politics of Hip Hop

Sure. You can rap about politics (ask Chuck D.), but can you make anyone listen? Rappers have been dabbling in the social relevance of politics since "The Message" with mixed results. For every valiant effort at voter registration and education, there's some troglodyte in a "Vote Or Die" T-shirt who isn't even registered to vote.

The Snob is a member of the much maligned hip hop generation (as I remember when it was actually good!), so here's The Black Snob's top ten moments in the conjunction between politics and hip hop.

Juan Williams: Helping Bill O'Reilly Feel Better About Himself One Quote At A Time

The Civil Rights Movement and whatever Bill O'Reilly does for a living should never, ever be in the same sentence together. But, you know that right, Juan? Mr. Eyes On the Prize? Of COURSE Bill O'Reilly calling an abortion doctor a murderer and dealing with the fall out when that doctor gets murdered is JUST like what participants in the Civil Rights Movement did. Only ... um, they didn't call for their tormentors deaths. And, um, they appealed to America's better conscious. And I'm pretty sure they weren't multi-millionaire asshat talk show hosts, ass hat! A pox on both your houses! (Media Matters)

Rah-Rah-Sis-Cum-Blah-Blah-Blah: The Cheerleaders of Demagoguery

Frank Rich (NYT)

Frank Rich penned a revealing column about the "silent enablers" who help stoke the fires of crackpots and zealots through incendiary rhetoric.

Due to an unprecedented degree of fear mongering (Obama is an anti-American, secret Muslim, Jew-controlled, socialist, fascist, Marxist, pinko, baby-killing Antichrist!) and a historic, sea-changing election, the number of fanatical Fruit Loops has sky-rocketed.

What are they mad at? Everyone. What are they afraid of? Everything. What's their answer to that anger and fear? Kill something. Fun times.
