GOP Performs Autopsy On Ailing Political Body

Head of the Republican National Committee, Reince Priebus talks about the GOP's report on CBS's "Face the Nation."In the new "autopsy" report, (called the "Growth and Opportunity Report) is out! Re-published by Politico, the GOP outlines what they need to do to get out of their rut of losing presidential elections. Highlights: endorsing comprehensive immigration reform, a $10 million outreach effort for minority communities, reforming its digital operations and making the GOP presidential primary process shorter and having their nominating convention sooner.

Because this report is long and you probably don't want to read it, I'm going to break it down for you with some highlights and commentary. Giving you only what you need to know about what the GOP thinks it's doing wrong to get your vote.

Facebook Encourages Narcissism, But As A Narcissist I'm Cool With That

ME!A friend recently brought it to my attention that my personal Facebook page was a lot of pictures of myself, taken by myself, in various stages of hair styling. I jokingly responded, "Well, I have a bit of a narcissist streak."

But for serious, I have a bit of a narcissist streak.

Clutch Magazine: On Why You're Not Married and Why That's OK

In Clutch Magazine Online, I talk about why I wrote the chapter I did in Gil Robertson's book of essays, "Where Did Our Love Go." My chapter in the divorce section called "The Problem with Marriage" asks people to free themselves from the burden of societal expectations and find the kinds of relationships that work for them.

Here's a snippet:

I know some of you badly want to get married and many of you actually will. But many of you will also get divorced. And some of you will live with someone. And others will have kids, but not be married to the father. And you will feel guilty because you failed at finding “forever” with a “soul-mate.” But that is the wrong way of thinking.

Love can be for a reason and a season.

Music Review: Wake Up, Alice Smith Is Singing

Alice Smith

Before I start talking about rock/R&B/soul "chanteuse" Alice Smith of Washington, D.C. and of "Woodstock" and "For Lovers And Dreamers And Me" fame, full-disclosure, I am hopelessly biased. It's easy for anyone to be biased for Alice if they know her journey, have enjoyed her in concert and donated to her Kickstarter campaign that got this album off the ground. (Fuller disclosure, I donated.) But probably the only person more biased than maybe me is her own family, who I had the pleasure of living with the entire time I lived in Washington, D.C.

Have You Seen This Woman?: Terrilynn Monette

New Orleans teacher Terrilynn Monette has been missing since March 2nd.From CNN.com: Terrilynn Monette is described as an African-American female, approximately 5'8" tall, weighing 180 pounds and having a light complexion with long brown hair. She was last seen driving a 2012 black two-door Honda Accord with Louisiana license plate WUN494. If you have any information, please contact the New Orleans Police Department at (504) 821-2222 or Texas EquuSearch at (281) 309-9500.

CNN and other cable news outlets have received their fair share of criticism in the past for an over-emphasis on missing young, typically blonde, upper middle class white women over everyone else. If you're a man, African American or not conventionally attractive, the cable news tends to not care. But CNN is covering the missing person's case of celebrated New Orleans teacher, Terrilynn Monette, last seen March 2 at 4 a.m. after leaving a bar in the Lakeview area. She'd had too much to drink and told friends she was going to sleep in her car, then drive home. She hasn't been seen since.

In Celebration of Passive-Aggression, My Choice Form of Aggression

In honor of Women's History Month I'm dedicating various posts to the ten different women who I've called my "best friend" at different times in my life, as well as the dozens of other women who are my close friends as well. Who've been there for me. Who have even saved my life. This one goes out to two women I'm not friends with anymore because fighting is not a way of life for me:

There wasn't a follow up conversation when I decided it was over.

No negotiations. No back and forth. No drawn out accusations. It was just over. In email form. Two years of intense friendship cracked under the pressure of one person too aggressive and another too passive aggressive.

I was the passive aggressive one.
