The Snob, Roland Martin, Toure and Baratunde Have A Panel Chat At NABJ, No One Dies
(Left to right) Baratunde Thurston of The Onion and Jack & Jill Politics, your friend neighborhood SNOB, author and MSNBC commentator Toure and, finally, my Uncle Rolly Rolls, the resident "Alpha" male, Roland S. Martin at NABJ last week. (Photo by Dr. Syb)No one in the audience died. We didn't kill each other. It was awesome. I think I only rolled my eyes once or twice. I got to finally meet Toure and Roland, as well as several other journalism folks and aspiring journalists -- including finally meeting the wonderfully charming Bomani Jones, who asked our panel for advice on his whole "I don't smile so people think I look mean because I'm a black guy on camera" thing. I think I suggested that he develop a half-smirk. Or, what I like to call, "The Dick Cheney."
Last week was a crazy week for me as I bounced between Washington, D.C., New York City and Philadelphia. I'm exhausted! I went to a charity event honoring Holly Robinson Peete, rushed back to D.C. for my friend FlyBlackChick's birthday celebration, then ran off to Philadelphia to speak on that panel at the National Association of Black Journalists' annual conference. I shared the stage with my long-time reader, comment-corrector, political chatterbox Roland Martin, author and Twitter provocateur Toure and the always nice Baratunde Thurston of Jack & Jill Politics and The Onion. (Did you take any pictures and/or video of our panel? I didn't ... because I was on the panel. If you did, mind sharing them with me? Hit me up! danielle@blacksnob.com.)
Baratunde was so excited about us meeting up again, he performed a wonderful "Black Snob" theme song for me. It sounds a lot like the theme song from "COPS." Only it's about "Black Snob."
Then, after the panel, I was interviewed by Devyne Lloyd of the Michigan State Chapter of NABJ. Here's the YouTube video she posted afterwards of our chat. I secretly love this video because, for the first time in the history of the world -- I look tall.
And I ain't tall y'all. At all.
Overall, while tired, it was a good week. Now, time to prepare for a long-overdue visit to St. Louis later this month to see the family.

Then you'll like the picture I took with you because you're definitely taller!
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to speak at the convention. My friends and I really enjoyed all you and the rest of the panel had to share.
Danielle congrats on being on a NABJ panel. P.S. Your hair was cute. Neatly messy. Loves it!
