The Snob Is Still Standing!

California Beach Cows by Kathryn LeMieux (Source)The Snob is back! I ran away to Los Angeles for four weeks to work on a potential TV project, it's done now, and now I'm home ... in St. Louis ... for the holidays. My time in LA was stressful (so stressful and busy I had no time to update the blog), but it was well worth it. Just like pledging a sorority and childbirth, I remember the wonderfulness of the outcome, more so than the hell we all went through to get the final result. Meaning, I've already gone from lamenting the miserable parts to focusing on how cool the experience was and how great the people were that I met. In the end, only good things can come from such a great experience.

Most of the cool things that happened I can't mention due to contractual obligations, but I can say that I got to spend Thanksgiving with my friends and former co-workers at The Bakersfield Californian, Tim and Anne Bragg and their adorable son Vincent. And that I got to hang out with former Snob Blog Google Stalkee, Sir T. J. Holmes of No Longer CNN Weekend.

The Prince of West Memphis and The Black Snob, together at last. The Prince of West Memphis and myself actually finally met for the first time this summer in New York when we both found ourselves working on the same project. I learned that it was his former CNN colleague and friend Stephanie Elam who hipped him to my once fake stalkeree ways. (And I met Stephanie at NABJ this year, where she retold me the story of telling ol' West Memphis of the dangers that lurked on the Internet in the form of 5'3" nerds with nothing better to blog about.)

The Teege was responsible for much of the early success of my blog by not having his own fan page or Web site for CNN Weekend watchers to obsess over. He, along with my Michelle Obama fashion blogging and occasional expositions on Black Conservatives became the "things" I was known for and almost all my early interest in that first real year of blogging came from my political coverage, Mrs. O's clothes and all things T. J. Holmes related. Then I suspended my T. J. Holmes coverage around late 2009 when he got engaged and officially stopped it altogether after he got hitched to his wife, Marilee, who I have since inducted as a fellow Snob in the Black Snob Hall of Fame.

Anyway, T. J., his wife, along with everyone I've ever met from CNN, have always been super good sports about how much I wrote about them early on, save for that one time Soledad O'Brien kind of side swipped me in her book when something I wrote in defense of her was misconstrued as a criticism of her race. But that doesn't matter as upon reading I realized she had no clue who wrote what about whom.

But I strangely still like Soledad, so there's that.

Anyway, as many of you may know, T. J. is no longer with CNN and has run away to join the BET family, signing a multi-platform deal with the network. And naturally, I wish him all the best in that. The guy is a walking-talking charm-bot, so I'm sure he'll do spectacular no matter what he does at the network.

As for me, I'm back to working on my book and I'm featured in January's Essence Magazine! (More on that later!) The article is a first-person account on how I survived both Bipolar Disorder and the Recession.

Essence and I are getting along quite famously right now, as I'm also the new author of their "Ten Things" column that runs monthly in the magazine. I get to work on it with the wonderful Bob Meadows as my editor and we have a blast coming up with topics. I was also on NPR's Weekend Edition this Sunday talking about the word "uppity" (more on that later) and I'll be on CNN again Dec. 18th talking politics with Fredricka Whitfield. I'm also in the middle of working on a site redesign to go with the newer logo that I hope to have up in 2012. So ... stuff! Happening! All the time!

Anyway, I missed writing! In the time I was away, Newt Gingrich became some kind of Franken-Frontrunner and Herman Cain (finally) imploded. So many things to catch up on before Christmas!

Thanks, as always, for reading and supporting The Snob! You're the reason why 2011 was a great year and why 2012 will be even better!

Welcome back, and welcome home fellow St. Louisan! Where did that picture of you and T.J. Holmes come from? Look how close you two are standing.

@ Nestafan2

The picture is from last week when I met T.J. again while we were both in Los Angeles for work. I find the "hugginess" of the picture hilarious.

Glad your back because I was going through withdrawal seriously! TJ is even finer than I thought. By the way, when are you going to be on "Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher"? I think you would be perfect for the show and I would eat some hot dogs just to get HBO back if you would be on it.

On another note, could you please do another post about natural hair again. I swear I get more attention and love from guys now that transitioned from the "Michelle Obama" to "Foxy Brown" hair. I get stopped so much for hair advice heck maybe I need to start the 2,987,345,222,005 blog about natural hair. Plus white folks loooooove it.

That multi $$$$$$$ deal better be worth TJ leaving CNN for that dump aka BET! Goodness gracious I'm horrified! Hope it's a viable move that will earn BET much needed credibility and relevance! Goodness gracious! Did I say I’m horrified?
