Antoine Dodson Continuing to Make Best of "Bed Intruder" Fame

Photo via APThe Snob was quoted in a recent Associated Press story on Internet meme and accidental star Antoine Dodson. Errin Haines of the Associated Press interviewed Dodson to get an update on how he and his sister Kelly are doing since she was attacked and how the notoriety from the song "Bed Intruder" is helping their family.

Dodson plans to use the money from the "Bed Intruder Song" selling for $1.29 a download and T-shirt sales to move his family out of the Lincoln Park housing project where they say the attack happened. But in an era when a viral video clip can rocket anyone to stardom, some suggest that Dodson and his family are being used and that his online rant plays to racial stereotypes.
To think so is to sell Dodson short. He said he is determined to be empowered, not exploited.
"Blessings come in disguise," Dodson said. "This is a golden opportunity for us. I'm gonna take it and run with it."
A typical day for Dodson now includes checking in on his thousands of Facebook fans, photo shoots, pondering a small movie role and juggling media interviews. And while he enjoys the limelight, he is still seeking justice for his sister and a better life for his family.
"We're still struggling," Dodson said. "We have a hit on iTunes, but we're still in the projects."
I just have to say, Antoine looks awesome in that photo and his hair color is divine. Hate that he can rock the skinny jeans and I can't. Hate ... Yet LOVE!

I think there is some merit to the protestations that the Dodsons are being used, but they seem like savvy people, so ultimately I think this will be all to their benefit.
I see hair endorsements and a guest spot on a Bravo reality show in 'Twans future.
This family is making lemonade out of lemons.
I just hope that they don't end up like many other who rocket to fame...buying a house they can't afford down the road. Once the fame wears out, hope he has a back-up plan....
I hope so too because he seems cool as hell so I'm rooting for him. Good guys DON'T finish last!
the people worried about racial stereotypes don't have to worry about people sneaking into their bedrooms at night. idiots.
take that money and run. get out of the projects. do something worthwhile with it, like getting an education.
