Quitter.CNN broke the news Tuesday night on Larry King Live (OMG! Larry King Live broke news, y'all! Old Man With Blue Pills for the win!!!!!) that Dr. Laura Schlessinger will not renew her radio contract because her "First Amendment rights something, something."

Embattled radio talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger announced Tuesday she will not renew her contract that is up at the end of the year, telling CNN's "Larry King Live" she wants to "regain my First Amendment rights."
Schlessinger has been under fire for using the N-word repeatedly during a recent segment of her show.
WOW! I didn't know President Obama, Eric Holder and the FCC marched down to Dr. Laura Central, slapped the microphone out of her hand and personally stripped her of her right to say the N-word 11 times and insult people on the Nation's airwaves. I had NO IDEA they did that. Of all the nerve! Even bigots have the right to ... wait? You say the government didn't actually infringe upon her rights, but that she was rude and insensitive to a caller who for some delusional reason wanted her advice and she got that shit thrown back in her face by the public, couldn't stand the heat, panicked and pulled an ol' "I'm being crucified so I quit" act?
Oh. OK, then. Carry on.
So ... how long until she gets offered a job on cable news? Does FOX News have any immediate openings? That Glenn Beck looks mighty unstable. I mean, how long is that dude going to last before he implodes from flop sweat and hyperbole? They're going to need a replacement!
Also, all you folks who had your money on Rush Limbaugh to be the first right wing pundit/radio person to lose their mind and shout the N-word on the record post Obama's election totally lost. Totally.
That is ... unless you were playing the "who's going to call the President the N-word first in public" game. In that case, the game goes on.

Honestly, I think her employers might have suggested it was time to hang it up. Plus she's old. She might have planned this retirement in advance and this just solidified it. But at the same time, even older and less popular she still had a HUGE radio audience.
I wouldn't be surprised if she either A) ended up back on the radio or B) did the touring speech/fundraiser circuit.
I just hate that now she gets to be a martyr. Her apology was for the wrong thing, but at least it didn't have this air of "I've been wronged!" about it. Now she's going to forget that she ever did anything worth apologizing for, and somehow she'll end up being the victim.

The FCC has stealth black helicopters everywhere. Ask Janet Jackson and Howard Stern about fines and licensing issues. Who quits a job nowadays? Nobody. That woman got fired on some bs. How's it feel to be treated like the n-word?
Lemme 'splain something to you about the First Amendment....you can say anything you want to say in America. You can stand in the street and yell the n-word all you want. You can rant about any group, polititian, religion what not. You can say anything you want, and you will not be thrown in jail and killed for it. That is your right as an American Citizen.
The First Amendment DOES NOT protect you from the consequences of you saying something stupid. If someone doesnt like what you had to say, they can fire you, evict you, not hire you - the individual, not the government , can screw you over however they want. Dr. Laura knew this, but she thought that her celebrity and her privilege would protect her. Buuuuuut, there are these folks that pay her salary, called advertisers. I m sure that they had a few N-words on their payroll that were none too pleased....

So lemme get this straight:
1st--She utters the n-word almost a dozen times in five minutes(many of which were spoken just to taunt the caller, i.e. "Yeah, I said it, and I'll say it again: n*gger, n*gger, n*igger")
2nd--She continues to utter it over the objections of the caller and is completely dismissive of the caller's genuine grievance.
3rd--After a huge public outcry, she feels that her 1st Amendment rights have been trounced upon simply because people don't want to hear her hateful drivel? Riiiiiggggghhhht.
I agree with delihound and Tracy 110%. I mean, her attack on interracial relationships was far worse, as well as her "all negroes vote for the secret muslim" BS. N*****r? Please. How outre an insult for many of us who grew up being taunted with it. Her saying it 11 times just made her look like the pathetic arse she is. I didn't even sweat her and her little job. I am getting ready to quit my bank, one of her sponsors, but no big.
I say if anyone wants to "put themselves out there" in the public arena...and say crazy stuff, and treat people callously...then they have to have the character to take the heat. Her reasons on LKL for quitting her show made her look whinny and made viewers like me think: what a bubble headed tomato...
I'm all for freedom of speech, opinion--and I love differing points of view--and equally enjoy debating them...but I hate when people on talk radio cross the line and then expect for the general public (which has been "patiently" waiting for the white mainstream to see that the entire society has a racial bias against blacks)--to "understand". Well, most of us don't understand why a white person would want to use the "N" word. In the meantime, we'll continue to believe that the reason why they want to use it--is why it was coined in the first place: to verbally abuse and denegrade.an entire group of people for no reason.
What I love most about the aftermath of this is that no one has tapped into the fact that she used Black comedy as a litmus test for what grace, dignity, and pure respect for humanity should be. She used the example of Black comedians to prove her point. If HBO is her "teacher" then she was in trouble WAY before those words came out of her mouth......
She should know that her First Amendment right to say whatever she wants should never get in the way of the person's Right who is hearing her FREE SPEECH. The problem is, she (as well as others) believe they have a RIGHT to say it, but no one has the right to QUESTION or PROTEST the speech by way of their FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHT. See, she missed the two way street on her way to HBO. She followed one trail that she laid out for herself...problem with one trail is there is only one way in and one way out!.....Hence, Dr. Laura...let me point you to the door!...you should know the way, since you created your own path.....

The brilliant yet hilarious comments are one of the reasons I love the Black Snob blog so much. Would love to write more but too busy laughing. I didn't pay any attention to Dr. Laura before this so I say good riddance to the Ol' Girl. She can go hang with Mel Gibson and rant about the pack of N's that took away her rights.

And you are right that the First Amendment prohibits the government from interfering with citizens' free speech rights. It does not stop indviduals or groups of individuals from protesting racist speech. Dr. Laura is an idiot and I am glad she has been exposed.
