Ieshuh Griffin Is Her Own Woman (WTF)

Image via GawkerI don't know who this "Whiteman" fellow is, but Milwaukee's Ieshuh Griffin is most certainly not his bitch! It says so right there on her poster! Also, I love that despite this Word 97 themed campaign poster, on video, Ieshuh is amazingly coherent and easy to understand. If you're going to be the kind of black girl who declares who you're not a bitch for on posters I like it when you can conjugate those verbs. Also, IESHUH GRIFFIN/ALVIN GREENE 2012!!!! (Video, h/t AverageBro)

Oh, also this mess further proving that Facebook is the devil. (Thanks to [flahy][blak][chik] for the link!)

WOW. that is hilarious. I would vote for her twice if I could, lol.

And if anyone has a problem with this being considered racist, you should be more than pissed off at all the racist stuff thrown at Obama since day one of the presidency and even before that. I figure if republicans and teabaggers can get away with all of this racist stuff and be called "patriotic", then so can anyone else. Lets put this theory to the test.

One step forward...two steps back.....
Perfect example of why we are not respected in powerful circles. We continue to bring "hood antics" into the professional discussion. All the cheering going on here proves exactly what Brietbart was trying to prove. There are racist amongst the ranks. Please people, we have got to do better!

Stop applauding elementary ideas and start to innovate, and cultivate. We are wasting precious time and energy when we have issues that are holding us down right in front of us....as featured in the post (She is the perfect example of what is wrong with our people). How can she be taken seriously by anyone other than people with a "hood mentality". There is no room or justification for this type of platform. She has not outlined anything in her slogan that would show her leadership style or goals...but, we still applaud the absolute bafoonery of her message. Come on people!

Catch, buy, or rent a clue. This type of behavior only makes us move backward. Think about what message she is sending to young kids. Especially the ones that have not grown up under the thumb of "the White man" as she calls "him". How can they relate to a person who is supposed to portait the strength and value in the best of us? She is making a mockery of politics while also degrading herself in the process. I for one no longer respect her or the message. (static---changing channel).

She may not like the White Man but look at the cheap weave she is wearing she is clearly has a thing for the Asian Man.

Mbt shoes: Peddle your crap elsewhere. We are trying to have a lively discussion. Unbelievable! I am sure you cast yourself as a very "respected entrepreneur".....interesting how you choose a website that caters to African Americans.....We have a larger need than another pair of sneakers. Are you donating a portion to the education of African American college students? NO! You just want to take from the target group and exploit the community.
Move on peacefully and close the door behind you.

Justice, while I agree with what you are saying, I laughed when I first saw the post.

I didn't take what she said seriously at all, but I do love the times when black folks say openly what a lot of black people are thinking. It's ignorant as hell, yes, but sometimes we / I need to not take these things so seriously. I think that sometimes, it is good to show our own asses, to let the world know that we are angry and resentful of white privledge, the fact that a whole lotta white conservatives can be so blatantly racist and make similar bigoted sentiments and the general public doesn't seem to bat an eye. But for us? We are expected to remain quiet, stoic and always present an attitude that we are "above that". Well even though we might be, it feels good when somebody inadvertenly breaks the "strong and stoic" mold. We are hurt and we are angry and while the above post is wrong, we have emotions that make us secretly think that Ieshuh does bring a bit of humor to a really crappy situation.

Being stoic and always presenting a uber-intellectual attitude to make folks thing that we are "just like them" isn't working for me. I want to laugh and I have the right to laugh at blatantly silly things, too.

Say what you want, but at least she got off her butt and is trying to get involved in the system in which she obviously feels is not just. What are the rest of us doing?

Also, maybe you should also be concerned with the commenters who seem more interested in the grade of hair she decided to sew onto her head, than the fact that sane, insane or not, she is at least doing something.........

July 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLainad

Lainad, you said, "the fact that a whole lotta white conservatives can be so blatantly racist and make similar bigoted sentiments and the general public doesn't seem to bat an eye" True. But, I think Justice has a stronger point.

(Although, I admit that I did laugh.)

Fact is that as black people we don't have many choices, if we want to maintain our sanity in this society. We must at all times take the HIGH ROAD. Just imagine. Where would African Americans be if Dr. King didn't take the high road? I doubt Barack Obama would be president if folks like Fredrick Douglas, Fannie Lou didn't take the high road.

But there is a time to fight, too. Remember, Harriet Tubman? She even carried a gun. She had a real purpose.
So what is Ms. Griffin's point? I think she's degrading herself.

Yes, I think in the midst of insanity, black people must adhere to positive coping skills. And that includes taking the high road and maintaining our integrity. Don't worry about what the mainstream white man gets away with. For one day, God's judgment cometh on us all.

Peace.

I just don't know what to say about this. Maybe she can join the New Black Panthers or something???**smh**

July 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterFunkystarkitty50

True, Nita. Justice is making a stronger and valient point. But as I mentioned in my above comment, I'm am seriously questioning the High Road in relation to how that burden affects us emotionally. I shouldn't have to adopt coping skills, nor should I have to keep my mouth shut and not defend myself or my people just to live the life that I want to live. But on the other hand, I would like to stay on the right side of the law...........

I showed this post to a co-worker who said that she thought that Ieshuh was actually pretty savvy. She knew how to 'bend the rules' and that the outrage would get her attention. And you know what? She might be degrading herself but she is playing the same game as our non-black brothers and sisters have played. Jersy Shore? White celebrities with no panties? Rush Limbaugh? Glenn Beck?

I was just trying to say that in order to challenge the monolitic stereotypes that that are directed towards black folks, regardless of economic or social class, we have to admit that not everyone is going to concede to appearing 'perfect' all the time. Sometimes It is too much emotional work. I think that we are so quick to critisize each other instead of focusing on the main target.

July 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLainad

The message is timely, popular amongst her future constituents and her delivery is controversial, which will give her additional publicity, although it does lack class and destroys any chance of a future political position outside of the “hood”. I wish she would have had a slogan like, “Not a Yes Woman,” “Always Doing The Right Thing For My Community”, “Fighting the Power for YOU,” or something along those lines which conveys a similar message without the negative connotations. Her theme song could have been “Fight the Power,” which would still convey the same message without such a negative impact. She really needed someone with experience to give her some guidance and then she may have been able to go onto higher office, with a toned down slogan.

July 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMary

In no way to I think we need to always put a stoic face on our image to masquerade our true selves or emotion. However, remember she is trying to run a campaign….not a reality show. How serious will she be taken in the PUBLIC forum? Not the “Hood” forum.
Of course I looked at the slogan and for a moment had a quizzical stare. I no longer laugh at that type of buffoonery. Since we are only 13% of the population let the comedians do the work of a comedian. To the rest of us as you say, “What are we doing”….well, since I am a high school teacher, a mentor to 10 African American females each year who I have helped to attend schools such as UVA, William and Mary, Spelman College, Emory, and VCU, in addition to owning three homes, having three degrees, working toward a Ph.D, and nurturing a marriage of nine years with a wonderful Black man who is also in the education field and also mentoring……we attempt to be examples to young African American students and others through our walk. I guess I am not a part of the “WE” you were referring to…..
Oh how I love when to see us laugh constantly at what degrading images we continue to display. Then it winds up in the classroom when a white student says, “Mrs. Justice, look at my black butt!” (Hearty laughter) Or, “Did you see that nasty black girl who had her tattoos on her boobs in that video?”…Or my favorite, “It doesn’t matter if I get C’s, I am still going to get further than most people at this school”…..Who’s laughing now?

Justice

That should appropriately be rephrased & read as: Not a Black Man's Bitch'....since the man disrespecting and abusing black women are NOT White man....that job has been left to black men. Its quite pathetic when black women, specially one who claims to run for public office jump on self defeating pointless stereotypical band wagon that constantly reinforces the crude impression of black woman in America.

July 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterHodan

@Hodan Most people of every race and color will disrespect you, are out for self alone and are just not trustworthy, so pls do not point fingers at the Black man solely. 90% of the people in this world are just no damned good period, so one must always keep their guard up for any sign of incorrectness in any relationship until they earn your trust. I am just so tired of people constantly pointing fingers at the Black man or Black woman, or White man or White woman etc…

July 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMary

well Mary, neither does this article or this woman supposedly running for public office are addressing who outside of black communities are being disrespected. The pathetic 'victim mentality' that still dwell on many black people is so blatantly embarrassing....how long can we use White people as a clutch for keeping us down, without taking responsibility for the dysfunction and mess that exist in our hoods?

July 29, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterHodan

Hodan, we are all victims including Black and White of the blood sucking elite (scheming billionaires) at this point. Any finger pointing that should be done should be done to the elite and their lackeys ( who would like to believe that they are part of the elite but who are also expendable).

July 29, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMary

I still think its funny. What really gets me is how all of these republicans and teabaggers come on here complaining about racism, when they practically invented race baiting. The republican party has been using an openly racist strategy of "scaring up votes" since the 60's, and these people have no problem with it.

July 29, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterdewfish

And Hodan is merely proving my point. They can't even refute this woman's campaign without going into racial invective themselves.
