The Haters Won: Desiree Rogers to Leave the White House

By now you probably know that everybody's favorite Zulu Queen, White House Social Secy. Desiree Rogers has announced that she's leaving her post. It might have had something to do with those famewhores who crashed a party and made everyone miserable for weeks. While I'm sure Desiree will be all delicate, graceful and classy about her exit three months after those famewhores ruined EVERYTHING, I don't have to be.

As long-time readers know, I love Desiree Rogers. I love all Michelle's homies who rolled into D.C. wanting to set the world on fire in three inch heels. I think they're AWESOME. Look at this woman! Just look at her! She is fierce. Yeah, folks complained with there "Just WHO does that woman think she is?" She knows who she is! She's mutha frakkin' Desiree Rogers! The men all PAUSE when she walks into a room!
Folks complained that you didn't know who the Bushes' social secretary was or who the Clintons' social secretary was, but they probably weren't fierce so who cares? Nobody wanted to know who they were because they weren't interesting. Desiree cannot HELP that she is so fascinating that people are fascinated by her. My girl Dezzie just rolls out of a feather bed of opulent ridiculousness and strolls through life on a pair of Sparkle Ponies called "Brains" and "Sex Appeal." That's just her EVERYDAY. Yeah, you're looking at it and you're checking it out. She can't help she's a star and you just want to gaze upon her! Stars are supposed to shine like that!
So you wanted her to be humble and beg you to love her? I'm sorry. Zulu Queens don't DO that. They don't beg. They don't cry. They don't ask for permission. They don't play nice. They see something they like and they just take it and you hate them for it while secretly wishing you could just take it too. Gosh darn it, people! She can't help it that she blinks whimsy and coughs out lavishness when most people are lucky if they just cough up phlegm! So what if she farts Chopin and shits rainbows? Get over it! You'll be OK once you accept that you're a boring hot mess compared to her radiancy, Maureen Dowd.
Desiree, on the behalf of mere mortals everywhere I just want to say I'm sorry that the world could not handle such an incredible magnitude of New Orleans-by-the-way-of-Chitown black girl savvy. (Don't slap her, because she's NOT in the mood.) And I'm sorry that the awesome was so great that folks had to get all pearl clutchy and go "That WOMAN is TOUCHING our THINGS!" about you being in the White House. And I don't care what anyone has to say about Party Crasher-gate and how you think she was supposed to man the door because you thought she thought she was too good for that shit. Well, since I'm not classy and I don't give a rat's patootie I can just say "screw you." Folks just mad because you can't kick Michelle Obama out the house, so you'll just break out the long-knives on her long-time friend and associate and get all junior high on it. Fine. Are you happy now! She's leaving and taking all her fabulousness with her. Thanks, world! Thanks a lot! Watch the next social secretary be some boring hump who never says anything worth quoting and doesn't know her Kors from her Balenciaga. Yeah, you'll have your parties and they'll be blandly OK and maybe no famewhores will crash (if they're lucky). But you won't have Desiree Rogers to kick around anymore!

Yea, I was disappointed to hear. I really don't know too much about her, but she sounded like a hard worker who did her thing before the got the Social Secretary post, and will continue to do her thing for long after.
She is gorgeous and, honestly, SHOULD be in the spotlight as another model of excellence, not JUST for Black girls (which is sooooooo necessary), but for this whole friggin' country of MEDIOCRITY.

I never ever want to have to choose between Desiree and Valerie. I love them both.
I do think that she is fabulous and like you, I'm glad Michelle brought her girls with her for the ride, that is great. But I also think that instead of being all up in Vogue and other fashion magazines, front and center at fashion shows, that if she was completely ON her job, she would still HAVE a job. Just my two cents.

I love her fabulousness too but I tend to go with Aeryn's view and not because I hate on her. I don't begrudge her doing all that social butterflying as long as she's on her social secretary job, too. That breach with the famesluts was something she could have and IMO should have avoided, if for no other reason than having the president and first lady's back against crashers and criticism.

But like our man Gov. Paterson can tell you...when with power are gunning for you , there are few places to hide.
DC is most definitely not for the weak and thin-skinned. But maybe she was asked to leave? Any way it is, if anyone's going to play in those shark-infested waters, she's gotta have a back-bone of steel and be ready to tell people to step off. And it doesn't hurt to be a hyper-conscientious player and always be on the ball. That's life for Black women; be better than the best.
falling on the sword is the name of the game in D.C. after the gatecrashers got all the attention it was later learned they were not the first to get into the white house while they were not supposed to be there. it was pretty obvious then that someone would have to take a fall.

I too am sorry to see her go. I don't get it. Bush surrounded himself with people who underminded America at every level and most of them stayed to the bitter end, but this Administration has already cut loose two remarkable people Van Jones and now Desiree. Not Good!!!

I agree 100%. The truth is that some will always have a problem with a beautiful BW who just happens to be accomplished, well-to-do, smart and wears amazing clothing. Human beings will still be their base, human selves when they feel threatened and/or insecure.
She probably decided her sanity was worth more than the darn job, afterall she was doing just fine before. I wish her well.
Desiree Rogers was only new to those who didn't follow prominent African American women. I hate that she's stepping down, but she's had better and I'm sure that she can waltz right back into corporate life which is exactly where she belongs. Those who hate don't know what great is because they can't see those who are because of the blindness hatred causes. As a fellow New Orleanian she will persevere and shine through once this storm clears because women like her wear resilience as an accessory. Some folks refuse to see it for what it really is and the real reason why they hated her was pure old self-hatred and classism.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but people here in Chicago who know her knows that Desiree doesn’t work. (in her mind colored folk do, but she doesn't) She’s a socialite who’s been fired from every high profile job she’s had here in town. The talk was that she took the job basically to find another rich husband like her ex. Why she got hired was the biggest joke in town and it was a matter of time before she would f—k up, like she’s done in the past, and sent packing.

Please DO NOT put Gov. Patterson in the same boat as Desiree Rogers. As an upstate NYer, I can say Ms. Roger's deserves better then that :). It's sad that she's decided to go and hope it had nothing to do with being on the outs with anyone. I know she was in mags in everything before the White House, but at the same time gotta agree with Aeyrn. You know your part of an administration that's going to tracked and scrutinized for every little thing. CYA and do your job. All that can wait for year 2 or a little later.

I can't figure out how someone who is supposedly so fabulous, talented and smart, runs away at the first fight. If you are going to be fabulous, own it. Show some backbone and stick around to show that you are not going to be run off just because times got a little tough. I'm disappointed. You don't see Sarah Palin or Hillary Clinton running away and Desiree's attack was so light compared to theirs. Leaving suggests that there is no toughness in her. She took the glamour and the fame of the position, but at the first sign of a bump in the road, she is slinking away.
Let's not post up in here like gate crashing started when the Obama Administration came to town. The Coin Man is the most famous example and the press reported the story of his repeated trespassing with recent Presidents & no one was ever called up to testify on the Hill or turn in their badge. Research it.
People its called an Agenda and there was definitely one against the Zulu Queen.

Now let's all come to the realization that Desiree Rogers being Fabulishiousness doesn't preclude you from making rainbows and Chopin in your own way- & then maybe we can all just let her be.

uhh, the fact that those "most men at her corporate level" aren't the social secretary of the united states. and that "most men are her corporate level" aren't getting fired from every high profile job they hold. and "most men are her corporate level" aren't taking jobs to find rich spouses. you know, because those "men are her corporate level" are quite satisfied in their earnings. but way to justify poor behavior. "other people do it, so it must be ok."
it's ok to be biased. as long as you can look in the mirror and say that.
