End-of-the-Year Media Shuffle Feat. TJ Holmes, Star Jones

It's December! Meaning now is the time to get dumped, hired, fired, move on or be replaced. It's time for some winter house cleaning before the new tax year starts. What's going down in medialand for the end of 2010? Larry King's leaving. But you already knew that. This column is for everyone else. Your John Robertses and your TJ Holmeses and your Star Joneses. Your other folks. Which, you know, gives me a perfectly good excuse to put up yet another picture of Holmes after ending my "Google Stalking TJ Holmes" feature last spring when he got married to that woman who was not me.

Life goes on. So who's staying and going?

More after the jump.

Well .... did you like watching John Roberts on CNN in the morning? Yeah. Nobody else did either. He's gone now. Replaced by my favorite pretty boy handsome CNN news yakker, TJ Holmes, aka "The Prince of West Memphis." (Arkansas, stand up!) He's going to be the first in a series of rotating anchors as they retool CNN's morning show, which at this moment, is getting beat by everyone, including Headline News (aka HLN) CNN's bratty step-sister network that delivers news for people with attention span deficits.

Pulitzer Prize-winning fashion writer/critic for The Washington Post, Robin Givhan is joining Tina Brown's team at Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Although Givhan said Newsweek was "not on my radar" and she wasn't looking to leave the Post, she's gone now. Off to write about a wider range of topics, not just fashion, but possibly including cultural issues and television.

And TV legal eagle Star Jones was just named the new Editor-At-Large for Uptown Magazine. Jones is a lawyer, social networking star, former cohost of ABC's The View and veteran of various other newsy/celebrity/special interest type shows. As you may recall, she fell out with ABC and Barbara Walters for allegedly being some kind of divatastic gastric bypass denying grifter. I dunno. I still liked her more than I like Whoopi or that Sherri person, but Babs didn't ask me about what I wanted. Still, those months before Star left were awesome! The drama! But she won't be bringing the drama to Uptown (I don't think). She will have a column starting in January.

Robin Givhan is a Pulitzer Prize winner. I love her work. I hope she will be appreciated at her new position.

Justice

I think your point about Star Jones being better than Whoopi or Sherry is something that has gone completely unnoticed. Looking back, she was far better than either one of them, including Rosie.

@ dewfish

I liked Star on the show. I know she could be a little extra from time to time, but I found her "extraness" much more appealing and exciting than Rosie's truther crazypants shtick or Whoopi's or Sherri comedic riffs. Whoopi's cool sometimes, but she is a horrible celebrity apologist. (Defending Mel Gibson AND Roman Polanski? WTF?) And Sherri, OMG, that girl. Star is really sharp, politically astute, educated and thinks fast on her feet, a great trademark for any media person or lawyer. So yeah, her whole wedding to that one dude with the sponsorships was a sideshow along with the gastric bypass or dieting situation, but it was an ENTERTAINING sideshow. Has anyone else been that blessed mix of on-point and insane diva as Star was? Yeah, she liked the glamor, but I agreed with what she had to say about the news of the day more than I disagreed.

A magazine for highly-affluent African-Americans? Hahahahahahahaha.

Whew. (Wiping eyes.) The final days of the empire are so much fun.

Even though I despise Sherri and 'once smart now stupid' Whoopi the shitty way Babs treated Star should be a big ass RED FLAG to any black woman even considering being on that wretched show

I cannot stand T.J. Holmes. He comes off as dumb. I cringe when I see him on air.

But I watch less and less of CNN anyway, so it's academic.

Put that picture of TJ Holmes next to the picture of the recently engaged Prince William. They could be brothers.

First time ever commenting even though I've been reading your blog for the past couple of years : ) I love the random shout-outs to Arkansas! I'm a born and raised Arkansan. TJ is def easy on the eyes. Keep up the good work!
