Snowbound! Wheeeee!

Hope everyone is staying safe in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area because it is NO JOKE outside. Unlike in my native Missouri where the streets would have been paved in salt at 9 a.m. Friday morning before nare a drop of precipitation could fall, Washington, D.C. just sort of sat around and waited for the onslaught to come. Maybe they saw resistance as futile. Maybe they thought we just didn't need to go outside. But you know me. I can't stay inside a house to save my life. I would have to face tornado/hurricane conditions to keep me from at least poking my head out for a little stroll.

Of course, that's me, The Snob, on the left, looking ridonkulous, frolicking and falling through the snow as I attempted to walk a few blocks and check out the neighborhood. I'm inside now, nice and warm and safe, sipping on a Riesling and getting caught up on the news. Thank God I have off-street parking because some folks are not going to be able to dig those cars out.

More pictures of my D.C. Winter Wonderland after the jump.

Stay safe, my D.C. peeps! I'll be on the Twitter!

In defense of DC's DOT, they didn't want to waste the salt by putting it down prematurely then having plows come and push it all away. They don't have salt to waste. LOL

Oh those WINTER WONDERLANDS - Enjoy! - I <3 D.C.!!!!

I'm so tired of people from other places putting down the way we handle snow here in the DMV. We don't get as much snow as other cities to warrant putting dollars towards snow removal as a regular budget line item. So we do well with what we have. It's 5:30pm and my street has been plowed and there is a crew shoveling the sidewalks in my neighborhood right now. I think that is mighty good for the record breaking snow that just fell less than 24 hours ago. So way to go DC!

I hear you!! I'm from New York, living in Northern VA and we've gotten almost 2 feet of snow. I don't care about being snowed in...as VDOT is concentrating on the main roads and highways. School here will most likely be closed next week - they had a short week anyway...so I'll be working from home!! LET IT SNOW...and don't dig me out until after Christmas!!LOL

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Greetings from PA, near Elkton, up the road about a half hour north. It's still snowing, PenDOT is out doing their thang, but here in my little city, I might see a plow about Monday noon. Not worried though, I have a old 5 speed four wheel drive station wagon, and love winter driving.

I am enjoying this. I have not done a thing but rest, relax and have not even looked out the window. Stay safe everyone!

Oh, I'm enjoying the snow. I'm used to snow. But c'mon, I'm from the Missouri-Illinois area and I regularly write about how much I like DC and thought it was so awesome that I moved here. I think DC will survive if I crack on the snow response. Missouri may be a pain in the arse in other ways, but let the Midwest have its pride in its ability to handle snow disasters.

here in atlanta, basic services would cancel and there would be riots in the streets.

hell, we have two hour delays over light snow that DOESN'T stick

it was worse when i lived in miami. those fools had bubble jackets and uggs on when it hit 60.

I have always believed, since I moved here, that DC always gets the short end of every stick because they are not a state. Because of that, I moved out of DC and crossed the bridge to VA . I can't live someplace where a bunch of knot heads from other states have more say in the city than the residents.

Great winter pics! And I'm glad you are enjoying your first winter snowstorm in DC! There will be plenty more to come! Hope you enjoy!

Yay! I love the snow that's arrived. I remember it snowed almost this much about 7 years ago in the Maryland area.

As a lifelong, third-generation, non-transplanted Washingtonian, I can assure you this was one of the city's BETTER snow coping efforts. The Washington area gets this kind of snow maybe every 4-6 years and by the next day, most of the main and side streets of my NW DC/MoCo, Md. neighborhood were at least passable. We just don't get as much practice as Missouri.
