Apologizes For the Lack of Blogging! (Life Got In the Way)
Friday, December 18, 2009 at 2:00PM Myself at the DC Young Dems holiday party. This week was a busy week in my real, non-blogging life as I juggled the J-O-B, networking, living in a new city and paying all these bills, bills, bills. I wish I could tell you I neglected you because I was all comfy and snuggly up with something more delicious than a Red Velvet cupcake, but TJ Holmes still won't return my Facebook messages and Tweets and he's MARRYING THAT WOMAN WHO ISN'T ME (Waaaaah!) so, no luck there.
Next week I'll be preparing for the holidays (and a return to the ol' St. Louis to see the family). You are all awfully swell to be so patient while I get used to things.
Mmmm ... dessert brunch! For those of you who have asked, things are going great in D.C. I'm meeting some cool people. Met great folks at DJ Stylus' Wednesday night shindig at Tabaq. I went to fun holiday parties with the folks with Mediabistro -- who helped me get my job! -- and hung out with the DC Young Dems at their party. Got interviewed by ABC News' Yunji de Nies on "The Princess and the Frog" only to get my part of the interview cut from the news segment for time. (Next time, Yunji!) I got to have a fun time at a friend's birthday party at The W. I spend my weekends wandering around Eastern Market not buying anything (cause I'm still kinda broke!) and when I brunch ... I brunch hard. Last week I hit up Creme with my friend Toya. That was incredibly delicious. Before that I've mostly brunched in and around Eastern Market.
My giant Chai Tea from Le Pain QuiotidienI LIVE for free wifi so I go wherever it goes. I've spent so much time taking up space at Le Pain Quoitidien and Jacob's Coffee Shop that they should charge me rent.
I discovered a spot to get my hair done (for braids and twists) that's just a minute from the house -- Kuts and Cuts. (Did I ever mention how fantastically lazy I am? I wish to drive no where.) The woman who did my hair hooked me up, but these braids in the front are KILLING ME, they are so tight.
Beauty is pain.
All-in-all, I'm pretty content. Now all I need to do now is discover where the movie theaters are (muy importante) and how to get to the mall in Pentagon City without driving and my life will be complete.
I look forward to getting a few more paychecks under my belt. I really like the new job and have been busy writing up a storm for their Web site. It's nothing like writing for The Snob Blog. (But what is?) But if you must, must, MUST learn all about closing Gitmo, it's the place to go.
I'm hoping I won't freeze to death this weekend as I ride out what folks are predicting to be some kind of snow storm. Not like I don't have plenty of work to do from editing this screenplay to working on my short stories to writing some ding-dang blog posts. Maybe the creative juices will get to flowing and the "magic" will happen.
One can hope.

i thought the metro dropped you right off at pentagon city.
love the hair
@ swiv
The Metro does drop one off at Pentagon City, but see, there is this matter of the different color lines and the bus I would ALSO need to take to get there, therefore some planning would be involved to get me from point A to point B.
if you're close to Eastern Market, you can take the Blue Line from there. Drops you off right underneath the mall.

who did your twists at kuts and cuts? i used to go there a while when a stylist named tia was there. the blue or the yellow line will take you right to pentagon city.
Happy holidays! Peace, light, love and goodwill to all people!
Girl you and your caricature ain't too far apart!!!
The hair looks beautiful! The blue or yellow line will take you right to Pentagon City, and you won't even have to go outside to get to the mall. Blue is more direct if you're catching the train from Eastern market, but yellow is a shorter train ride. The movie theaters in the city are ok (just ok). There used to be a theater at Pentagon City, but they did away with that a few years back. There's a theater off the red line at Union station, but that one's not really of very good quality. A lot of the better theaters are in the 'burbs; there are some fairly nice ones in Alexandria (not sure if they're all metro accessible, but some are). Have fun! :)
It's okay Danielle. We understand you have an outside life other than this wonderful website. But I do miss the days when you had about 4 posts a day. And you did seem to be a lot funnier in your blogs, but maybe once you get settled in the Chocolate City you will give us what we love the most about you and your website.
It's a shame TJ Holmes doesn't try to repay you with an interview or something considering all of the free publicity you have been giving him over these past couple of years. If it wasn't for you and your installments of "Google Stalking TJ Holmes", he wouldn't have hardly anything out there about him for fans to enjoy. Maybe you'll meet him one day.
Hey Snob- You can check out Metro's website @ www.wmata.com. It has a feature, where you can enter your location and your destination and it'll plan your rail/bus trip. I find it useful.
Check out Tryst coffee shop in Adams Morgan (around 18th and Columbia rd) one of my favorite cafes in the city, they do have free wi-fi, great sandwiches and drinks..you might like it.
May I suggest Dukem restaurant..on 11th and U streets for wonderful Ethiopian food also?
Welcome to our city :) Love your blog!
Hey Danielle-
Like everyone mentioned you can get on the blue line at the Eastern Market station (the blue line going to Franconia Springfield) and get off at Pentagon City. Once you get off the stairs, you are in the mall. But if you get on the yellow line, it's quicker than the blue. The yellow line going to Huntington bypasses a lot of stops. Even though I catch the blue line to get to the mall, I always transfer to the yellow line at L'Enfant Plaza, so I can get to the mall quicker.
Also, check out Georgetown. If you don't want to drive into Georgetown to shop, get on the blue or orange line at the Eastern Market stop going in the direction of Franconia Springfield or Vienna and get off at Rosslyn and catch the blue shuttle into Georgetown. It is really easy.
In reference to the movie theatre. There is a great theatre in Gallery Place/Chinatown by Clyde's Restuarnt. Just get of at Gallery Place metro.
There are two good theaters off the Red Line: the Regal Gallery Place Stadium 14 and the Landmark Theatre (landmarktheatres.com). Both movie theaters are within a short (2 or 3 blocks) walking distance. You can take the blue line to Metro Center station and walk.
D.C. as "Chocolate City???" It's more like "Mocha City" now.
Welcome to D.C., Danielle. If you live here long enough, the various "free and dollar-day" events in the tri-state area -- DC, Maryland (esp. Baltimore), and Northern VA -- will truly spoil you.
No Sweat Snob! Do ya thang gurrl!
Snob,
In that photo of you at the young dems holiday party?... now you look darn cute and you all look righteous but that gal on the left end of the photo actually has a halo!!! No praying republicans are going to be partying down with angels no matter how hard they pray...;o) PSM

Hoffman AMC 22 in Alexandria is directly across from the Eisenhower Metro Station. The others are bus accessible but not metro accessible.
Affiliate Marketing is an Internet-based marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts. It is an application of crowdsourcing.[citation needed] Examples include rewards sites, where users are rewarded with cash or gifts, for the completion of an offer, and the referral of others to the site.
The affiliate marketing industry has four core players: the merchant (also known as 'retailer' or 'brand'), the network, the publisher (also known as 'the affiliate') and the customer. The market has grown in complexity to warrant a secondary tier of players, including affiliate management agencies, super-affiliates and specialized third parties vendors.
