Danyel Smith No Longer With The Root
BlackWeb 2.0 is reporting that The Root executive editor Danyel Smith is no longer with the online publication, citing the commute between her life in NYC and Washington, D.C. as too much. (And that is a brutal commute, but ... Man, that was fast!) Smith was with Washington Post-based publication for six weeks. She was editor of Vibe Magazine prior to that.

It could have been the commute. But she was on the Washington, DC CNN and The Root panel a few weeks ago (about two weeks into her editor-in-chief role) and she didn't seem as excited or well-informed about news and politics, for example she didn't know that Obama was the 44th president. Danyel seemed like a fish out of water in that type of arena; however, when a subject came up about music, she became really excited and animated, and spoke at great lengths. I just think she was unhappy in the type of newsy/political climate. She is great in music and the hip hop culture and needs to do that.
Well I guess the economy is not a concern of her's if she's quitting her job like this. There has to be to this than the commute. Maybe Essence is calling?
people act like a 3 hour commute is ok. yea, right.
I agree with the first commenter. She showed a lack of knowledge outside of things concerning Soulja Boy
