Hot Topics > Half Black/Half Swedish Comic Sued By Jewish Mother-In-Law

For American stand-up Sunda Croonquist, the old jokes have a new edge – after her husband’s mum sued her for making her the punchline of too many of her routines.

Croonquist’s act is based on her diverse background in her act as a half-black, half-Swedish woman who grew up Catholic and married into a Jewish family.

But mother-in-law Ruth Zafrin, her daughter, Shelley Edelman, and Shelley's husband, Neil have failed to see the funny side, and filed a lawsuit in New Jersey, claiming the stand-up is spreading defamatory and racist lies.

The sentence above was created by the line below:

‹i›‹b›‹a href="http://www.comedycentral.co.uk/daily-fix/news/62632-comic-sued-over-mother-in-law-gags"›This link‹/a›‹/b›‹/i› will take you to Comedy Central where you can catch a short clip of Sunda's act.

The ‹i› tag and the ‹b› tag are not necessary for the hot link; they are there just to make This link stand out more. The actual hot linking is done with the ‹a› tag and its  href=""  parameter. Please note the nesting of the ‹i›, ‹b› & ‹a› tags:

‹i›‹b›‹a href=""›This link‹/a›‹/b›‹/i›

Hope this helps.

@ W

Oh, and cutting and pasting from what I wrote above will not work because I used the special characters  ‹  and  ›  instead of  <  and  > . If I hadn't done so, some of my comment would not have displayed properly. Don't worry about understanding that, just know that  "<"  and  ">"  must be used instead of  "‹"  and   "›" when you try this yourself, therefore cutting and pasting from what I wrote above will not work.

Sunda might be somewhat funny but she is definitely walking a tight rope. Check out the "Mixed Up" link on the attached website. Be sure to listen until the end. You'll be shocked at how she describes a a black woman who approached after a show.

Aabaakawad, thank you so much for the explanation. It's perfect. Now, I have to practice to make sure I post correctly.

Thanks again! :)

Thanks for the link Cmar and you are correct. In the clip that you captioned, her stereotypes of black women (and women in general) is highly offensive. I wondered how many layers there were to Sunda when she appeared all over the media last week with her litigious mother-in-law story. Was this really about her mother-in-law being offended or was this a gag to gain publicity? Me thinks her comedic time clock is running out.
