Hot Topics > Jon Stewart Most Trusted Man In News

From HuffPo:

Well, in a result that he will probably accept as downright apocalyptic for America, The Daily Show's Jon Stewart has been selected, in an online poll conducted by Time Magazine, as America's Most Trusted Newscaster, post-Cronkite. Matched up against Brian Williams, Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson, Stewart prevailed with 44 percent of the vote. Now, if we're being honest, he probably managed to prevail as the winner precisely because he was the odd man out in a field of network news anchors. Nevertheless, I think Jim Cramer should feel free to SNACK ON THAT.

Brian Williams drew the second largest percentage of votes, with 29 percent. Gibson and Couric finished third and fourth, respectively, with 19 and 7 percent of the vote.

Honesty, humor, and CRITICAL THINKING go a long way. The essence of what he does on The Daily Show is what news should do on a regular basis. He doesn't take himself seriously and his writers and researches do a good job of presenting facts, backed up by video, quotes, ACTUAL HISTORY, etc. (that's a lot of C-SPAN watching that I do NOT envy... That'd be a cool job though, watching 24 hour news stations for the show... hmm...).

Unfortunately, our essentially "Fourth Branch" of government is controlled by corporate and political interests, that, from that perspective, decide what they will and will not present to the public. Even though Steward gives his own opinion, and he is clearly of a specific political slant (beliefs with which I do not always agree... many times, but not all), at least he gives the info and wears his biases on his sleeve.

Plus he's HOT, smart, and can conduct an interview of substance and interest regardless of who is slated for the show.

Cosign w/ Jaddadalos. The Daily Show should lack credibility just due to the fact of blatant bias, but I do understand why Jon has earned significantly more trust based on the the reasons Jaddadalos stated.

I have to give Lou Dobbs my vote. He's the one I trust the most. NOT!!!! Hee, hee

Yay for John Stewart! But it's pretty sad that a comedian beat out all the "real" journalists in the poll. Just goes to show you how much the media, and our news sucks.

I find it so very IRONIC!! but love it. I would have voted for Jon because I never watch the others. I read my real news on line.

It just goes to show how crappy of a job the news media is doing. Maybe this will serve as a wakeup call for the powers that be, but I'm not holding my breath.
